Acer XF UM.FX0AA.001 is being dubbed as the cheapest most powerful gaming monitor available in the market. Is that true? Well, that is what we will try to discover here in this review.
This monitor hails from the Acer XF series designed to bring a revolutionary change in the gaming monitor market specially with the price tag. These monitors are testimony to the claim that gaming monitors can be had for cheaper than people actually think. This series has several different monitors ranging in many sizes as well as many features.
However, here in this Acer XF UM.FX0AA.001 review we will talk about what separates this monitor from the rest and if this monitor really is a great bargain. One thing is clear; however, for a gaming monitor, this really has one of the best price tag without any doubt.
Note that this monitor is also known as XF240H bmjdpr.
Design and Features
One thing obvious about this monitor on first look is that it is designed like a gaming monitor. It has the all the curves, the style, gaps and also the color accent that are suitable for a gaming monitor.
Therefore, the design of this monitor is excellent. It can easily be the center of attraction in your gaming room and can easily complement your gaming rig. Additionally, this monitor is fully adjustable. This means that you can not only tilt it but also swivel and rotate it. You can also adjust the height of the monitor to position it exactly where you feel most comfortable at.
XF240H bmjdpr features a TN panel. Why not an IPS panel? Well, lets face it. Gaming IPS monitors are super expensive. If you have done even the slightest the research on gaming monitor you will know that IPS gaming monitors are latest breed in the industry and therefore they are super expensive.
TN panel does have its perks. It has a super fast response time and it is cheap to manufacture. It can also harbor several technologies specific to gaming at a cheaper price tag.
That is the reason why this monitor is loaded with awesome technologies like 144 Hz refresh rate, 1 ms response time and AMD FreeSync.
The 144Hz refresh rate is obviously a huge plus point for this monitor. Almost all hardcore PC gamers want this refresh rate. Although consoles do not have support for such high refresh rates, high end PCs do.
Just remember, a higher refresh rate does not mean a high a frame rate. Frame rate depends upon the type of hardware you have. 144 HZ refresh rate means that monitor has the potential to run at 144 frames per second, but your gaming rig needs to ensure that it can support that high frame rates.
So don’t blame the monitor if your game is still running at 30 fps because your hardware cannot support it.
The AMD Freesync technology, like the NVIDIA G-sync technology, synchronizes the refresh rate with the frame rate which in turn reduces the screen tearing and stuttering. All these technology may not have meant a lot in the past, however, with the standard of gaming these days, these technologies have become quite relevant.
Furthermore, this monitor features a 1 ms response time which is quite expected from gaming monitor equipped with a TN panel. Had this monitor boasted an IPS panel, the response time would have been much slow.
It does have the drawback of narrower viewing angles as compared to the IPS panel, but to gamers this shouldn’t really matter. A gamer typically sits right in from of the monitor not on the sides.
The ports on this monitor are quite adequate. It features a DVI port along with and HDMI and a DisplayPort. Note that it does not feature a VGA port. VGA port is an old connection port. This monitor assumes that since you are buying it, you will at least have a good enough PC.
A gaming PC has almost all of these ports. So connectivity will not be an issue at all.
So lets see if this monitor really is the most powerful budget monitor that money can buy. For the specs that it has, yes this monitor may be the best budget gaming monitor in the market.
The competition that it has is from two monitors, the famous Asus VG248QE and BenQ XL2411. They are both in the same price category. Asus VG248QE has almost the same features but lacks AMD Freesync or any adaptive syn technology. BenQ XL2411Z is a bit more expensive.
It does not have AMD Freesync support either. It does however have loads of technology built for gaming like motion blur reduction, and black equalizer.
Given this competition, Acer XF UM.FX0AA.001 without doubt, has one of the best value for money as a 24 inch gaming monitor.
